A search through history

IN a bid to document its history, the Atherton Eagles Football Club is inviting all current and past players, members, and anyone who has been affiliated with the club to attend a special event in late November.

The Atherton Eagles are organising an event later in the year to gather as much history about the club as they can.
The Atherton Eagles are organising an event later in the year to gather as much history about the club as they can.

The club is looking for old photos, memorabilia, newspaper clippings, jerseys, trophies, programs, memories, or anything that tells a story of its rich history.

“This afternoon is all about gathering information, filling in the blanks, and bringing together people who’ve shaped the club over the years,” club treasurer Andrea Rocca said.

“We’re building a timeline of the Atherton Eagles, and we can’t do it without your help. So come along for an afternoon of drinks and appetizers, laughs, memories, and a bit of football history.

“Everyone is welcome. Players, coaches, families, supporters, and anyone who loves the game.”

The club plans to host a big celebration in the future but would like to have more history and stories on hand before they do so.

Some history they are aware of is that games were played at their grounds as far back as 1924, with teams like Atherton and Malanda facing off well before the Atherton Eagles officially formed under the British Football Association in 1934.

One of the earliest teams, “Golden Grove Team”, was formed by workers from the old butter and bacon factory in Atherton.

To RSVP or share materials in advance, email accounts@roccaindustries.com or contact Andrea on 0407954365.

The event will be held on 30 November at the Atherton International Club on the deck. More details regarding the event will be made known closer to the date.
