Accident exercise tests skills

EMERGENCY services went through their paces on Friday, staging a simulated car crash in Atherton to test their skills and preparedness.

Queensland Fire and Rescue conducted the multi-agency exercise which simulated a vehicle crash with multiple injuries for Year 11 students.

The aim of the exercise was to provide road safety awareness through real life demonstrations involving actors playing casualties and real working tools. It also provided an opportunity for emergency personnel to refine their skills to work in high stress situations alongside and with other agencies.

The demonstration covered all actions that occur in a real crash, from the moment of impact to the casualties being cut out of the vehicles and then being transported to hospital by the rescue helicopter.
