Agriculture book to lure future workforce
A NEW book aimed at inspiring the next generation to consider agriculture as a career of choice is being developed by FNQ Growers.

The FNQ Careers in Agriculture book forms part of broader workforce attraction efforts across Far North Queensland and will showcase real people, real jobs and real career pathways available throughout the region’s agriculture sector.
FNQ Growers president Joe Moro said the project was about changing perceptions and highlighting the diversity of opportunities available in and around agriculture.
“Agriculture today is much more than what people traditionally think of as farming,” he said.
“This book will highlight not only on-farm roles, but also the wide range of professional and skilled careers that support our industry and are essential to its success.”
In addition to traditional agricultural roles, the book will feature careers in supporting industries such as business, law, taxation, banking, tourism, education, communications, information technology and the trades – many of which are based in regional towns and closely linked to agriculture.
Regional workforce development officer Kelly Hodgkinson said the aim was to show students and jobseekers the breadth of rewarding careers available while also promoting Far North Queensland as a great place to live and work.
“We want young people to see that there are meaningful, skilled and long-term career opportunities in agriculture and the industries that support it, right here in Far North Queensland,” she said.
“By sharing real stories from local employers and employees, we can help people better understand the pathways into these roles and the lifestyles they can offer.”
Employers across the region are being invited to nominate themselves or a team member to be featured in the book.
Participation involves a short interview and photo, with interviews scheduled to be conducted between now and early March.
“It’s a simple way for businesses to support workforce attraction while helping showcase agriculture as a future-focused industry,” Ms Hodgkinson said.
Anyone interested in participating, or wishing to nominate someone suitable, is encouraged to get in touch.
