The aircraft, which was being operated by MAF International (Aviation Services) Training Centre, made the forced landing during a routine cross-country training flight.

The single occupant pilot was not injured and the aircraft was not damaged during the incident.

“The pilot was fully qualified and the flight was authorised in accordance with the flight school’s standard operating procedures,” MAF International’s director of Asia-Pacific programs Nick Hitchins said.

“It is a testament to the skill and training of our pilots that no one was hurt and the aircraft was not damaged.”

MAF has been conducting flight training in Australia since 1967 and from the Mareeba Training Centre since 2015. The organisation is cooperating with the relevant authorities in the investigation of the incident.
