LOCAL cricketers were finally able to get a full game in at the weekend after wet weather played havoc on the last few rounds, but the Atherton Cricket Club were unable to find a win.

Atherton hosted the Cassowary Coast Cyclones on Saturday but were unable to get the job done after the visitors posted a hefty score of 224 runs after their 40 overs.

Cyclones batsman Tony Ura proved a handful for the home side – notching up an impressive 121 runs off 90 balls, including eight 4s and seven 6s.

However, Atherton bowler Lachlan Hollitt fared well with ball-in-hand, taking three wickets in his eight overs.

Atherton were faced with a difficult run chase after the Cyclones finished 8/224. Opening batsmen Cam Davis and Brandon Green got their side off to a steady start – scoring 29 from 42 and 14 from 22 respectively.

The next-in-line Brendan Nasser provided a helpful boost with his 26 off 37 stint. The rest of the Atherton batsmen didn’t fare as well, except for Charlie Lawrence who scored 30 from 29, and Reece Johnston who tallied up 20 runs off 24 balls.

Atherton were bowled out after 36.4 overs for a score of 161.

Atherton now sit at fourth on the ladder, tied on points with the Cyclones, while the Mareeba Bandits remain winless in last place.

This Saturday, the Bandits will return from a bye to take on Barron River at Borzi Park, Mareeba, while Atherton will enjoy a bye.
