Atherton finally got off the mark on Saturday, chasing down Rovers’ score of 107 in 22.4 overs to claim their first win.

The Bandits weren’t as fortunate against Mulgrave, however, putting up a score of 66 runs before being bowled out, which the Cairns team chased down in just 11.5 overs to seal the game.

ATHERTON

The local bowlers shone in the first innings, taking a golden duck, two ducks, and keeping the Rovers batsmen to low scores.

Atherton captain Tom Boorman and Riley Lennon both took three wickets in their six overs, with Lennon boasting an economy of 1.33 runs per over. Cam Davis, Brandon Green and Charlie Lawrence also took a wicket each.

Atherton managed to bowl out their opposition after 35 overs with a score of 107 runs.

Coming out to bat in the second innings, it was opening batsman Charlie Lawrence and captain Boorman who put a big dent in the run chase for their side.

Lawrence hit 30 off 45 balls, including three 4s, and got Atherton off to a hot start. With the next two batsmen leaving the pitch after five and eight runs respectively, Boorman padded up and walked out.

The captain finished 43-not-out off 41 balls and hit five 4s and a 6. Atherton finished 3/109 after 22.4 overs to claim their first win of the season.

MAREEBA

The Mareeba Bandits were simply outclassed by a strong Mulgrave side at Borzi Park, Mareeba at the weekend.

Going out to bat first, Mareeba were put under pressure immediately, with their opening batsmen getting out for a duck and one run respectively.

However, the next-in-order Will Hanlon and Greg Misener picked things up a bit. Hanlon managed 15 from 45 and Misener 28 from 46.

Following this, Mareeba weren’t able to recover, with scores reading six, three, duck, golden duck, one, duck, and three-not-out. The Bandits were all out for 66 after 26.5 overs.

It didn’t take long for last year’s grand final contenders to chase the home side down, finishing 2/70 after 11.5 overs to claim the game.
