MALANDA and Ravenshoe are among six Queensland regional towns to be chosen to receive Westpac Community Banking Services.

The bank, which has a branch in Atherton and an ATM in Mareeba, will begin introducing fortnightly visits from Westpac bankers to the towns, to give customers direct, face-to-face access to banking services and information to complement digital banking options.

“From agriculture to resources, tourism and small business, regional Queensland is central to the country’s growth and resilience,” Westpac chief executive officer Anthony Miller said.

“A one-size-fits-all model doesn’t always work. The Community Banking Service is about being present in these regions, understanding local conditions and supporting everyday decisions, whether that’s for households or businesses.”

The Queensland services follow a pilot program successfully introduced into regional NSW earlier in the year and also complements the bank’s moratorium on regional branch closures through to 2030.
