Big turnout for clay shoot
OVER 100 competitors contested Atherton Clay Target Club’s annual trap carnival recently, with some coming from as south as Chinchilla and as far north as Karumba.

The event is the biggest for the club each year and always attracts quality competition. This year, 106 competitors, including 15 ladies, travelled from Silkwood, Normanton, Karumba, Charters Towers, Herbert River, Townsville, Burdekin, Port Denison, and Chinchilla for a shoot.
From early teens to the 98-year-old Joe Collins, clay target shooting lives up to its reputation as a multi-generational sport, with parents, children, and in some cases grandchildren, competing alongside each other.
There were even zone, state, and national representatives in attendance, together with those who were competing at their first majorly competitive outing.
In a dream finish, Burdekin’s Alex Scalia took out the Overall High Gun with a score of 292/300 from dad Phillip who took the AA Grade High Gun, also with a score of 292/300.
