Biosecurity ambassadors wanted
YOUNG people who want to make a tangible difference in safeguarding the State’s environment, economy, communities and lifestyle from biosecurity threats can apply to become one of nine new Biosecurity Ambassadors.

The ambassadors play a key role in raising awareness, promoting best practices, fostering community engagement in good biosecurity measures and encouraging proactive actions to protect Queensland.
The Queensland Biosecurity Ambassador Program is calling for industry and community representatives who will be appointed this year to champion biosecurity and play a key role in safeguarding against plant and animal pests and diseases.
In this cohort, successful ambassadors will include young people aged 18 to 25 and regionally based ambassadors, ensuring a broad representation of voices and perspectives from across the State.
Ambassadors help to raise the profile of biosecurity by attending up to four events during their 18-month tenure, including workshops, community meetings, agricultural shows and/or industry conferences to deliver impactful messages and engage with communities and stakeholders.
“Biosecurity is everyone’s responsibility, and this program gives passionate Queenslanders the opportunity to lead by example,” Department of Primary Industries Deputy Director-General and Chief Biosecurity Officer Dr Rachel Chay said.
