Book fair back for another year
Bibliophiles from across the Far North will converge on Yungaburra this weekend for the annual book fair.
Bibliophiles from across the Far North will converge on Yungaburra this weekend for the annual book fair.
The Yungaburra Book Fair was started 12 years ago and has now expanded to include local booksellers, collectors and authors selling their books at the Yungaburra community hall.
The organiser of the book fair Chris Tsilemanis said last year was their biggest year. ”This year we already have about 20 sellers and as it’s on the same day as the markets, we are hoping that this year will be just as big.”
Some of the local authors who will be selling on the day include Viviana Verheesen from Kuranda, Robert Taylor from Tolga and Robert Reid from Mareeba.
Mr Reid has published over 9 nonfiction books and his last book ‘Murder on the river of gold’ is about the disappearance of Queensland prospector Bruce Schuler near the Palmer River in July 2012.
Mr Reid said he has attended the book fair for the past 10 years. “It’s undercover, it’s on the same day as the markets and it’s a great day for authors and writers in general.” He said
“Book fans know that that there will be a huge selection of fiction and nonfiction books to choose from,
“It’s well worth it for local authors trying to get their name out there, you’ve got an audience ready and interested arriving on the day.”
Another local author who will be at the book fair is Janette Murray-Wakelin, who is the author of two books; ‘Raw Can Cure Cancer’ based on her own personal journey with cancer, and ‘Running Out of Time - Running Raw Around Australia’ based on a World Record Run of 366 consecutive marathons around Australia achieved by Janette and her husband Alan while in their 60s.
There will also be six booksellers selling everything from second-hand books to collectables on the day.
The Yungaburra Book Fair is on this Saturday, August 22 from 9am – 4pm, at the Yungaburra Community Hall, entry is free.
