Book to inspire new generation for ag
A NEW book has been released to inspire young people to pursue a career in the region’s agricultural industry.
FNQ Growers has released the Grow Your Future careers book which explores the different roles and career opportunities available within Far North Queensland’s agricultural sector.
Developed by FNQ Growers’ workforce development officer Kelly Hodgkinson, the book showcases real people, real careers and real pathways into one of Australia’s most important industries.
From farming and agronomy to engineering, trades, science, technology, logistics, finance and marketing, the publication highlights the diverse range of careers that help drive agriculture forward.
The initiative forms part of FNQ Growers’ broader workforce attraction strategy to strengthen the region’s future agricultural workforce.
President Joe Moro said investing in future generations was critical to ensuring the long-term sustainability of the horticulture industry.
“Agriculture is one of the largest contributors to the Far North Queensland economy, but like many industries we face the ongoing challenge of attracting the next generation of workers,” he said.
“If we want our industry to continue growing, we need to show young people the exciting careers that exist beyond the farm gate.
“The Grow Your Future book demonstrates that agriculture is a modern, innovative and technology-driven industry with opportunities for everyone.
“Whether your passion is science, business, engineering, trades, environmental management or hands-on farming, there is a place for you in agriculture.”
Mr Moro said the book would also help change outdated perceptions of the industry by showcasing successful local people who have built rewarding careers while living and working in regional communities.
Ms Hodgkinson said the publication was developed to connect students, parents, teachers and jobseekers with the enormous range of opportunities available throughout the agricultural supply chain.
“Many people simply don’t realise how many career options agriculture offers,” she said.
“This book brings those opportunities to life through the stories of local people who are passionate about what they do.
“Our goal was to create a resource that inspires students to see agriculture as a career of choice, while giving schools, career advisors and families a practical guide to the pathways available right here in Far North Queensland.
“We hope it encourages young people to stay in the region, build meaningful careers and become part of an industry that feeds Australia and the world.”
The Grow Your Future book is expected to become a valuable resource for schools, careers expos, employment providers and community organisations, helping bridge the gap between education and employment while addressing workforce shortages across the agricultural sector.
