Bulls lose tight match
MAREEBA United’s search for their first win of the season continues after a hard-fought 1-0 loss to the Innisfail Cutters at Borzi Park on Saturday night.

Despite the result, Bulls coach Victor Madrid remained upbeat, praising his side’s performance and clear improvement. “We deserved something from that game, I can’t fault their effort. It’s been 100 per cent better than the first two matches,” he said. “I’m disappointed for the players, they fought hard and could have easily won. We need to look at what we did well and focus on the next game. I’m sure the results will come.”
The Bulls showed resilience throughout the contest, with goalkeeper Tyson Tatti producing a crucial first-half penalty save to keep the scores level and give his side a much-needed boost. Mareeba continued to match their opponents across the park, creating opportunities and showing far more cohesion than in previous outings.
However, the breakthrough came with 20 minutes remaining when Innisfail’s Max Darveniza found the back of the net. Mareeba responded with urgency, pushing forward in search of an equaliser and peppering the Innisfail goal, but were unable to convert their chances.
The loss follows a tough midweek outing for Mareeba United, who went down 5-2 to the Marlin Coast Rangers in a rescheduled fixture after last weekend’s weather postponement. The result leaves the Bulls winless after their opening three matches of the season.
Mareeba will now take a short break over the Easter period before returning to action on Saturday, April 11, with an away clash against the Stratford Dolphins, where they will be eager to turn improved performances into points.
