Bulls prep for mind and body

FROM bush bashing at Tinaroo, to a nutrition class and a working bee around the grounds, Mareeba Bulls players are back in business for the coming season with plenty of preparation for the mind and body, and a few new additions to spark up the team.

Premier team coach Victor Madrid said a recent orienteering day spent at Tinaroo was a great bonding exercise for players, with 18 people, including players from the ladies team, taking part.

“It was really nice to see them working together to solve things,” he said.

Nick enlisted the help of his former schoolteacher, Terry McClelland, to organise the event, held at Camp Barrabadeen on Tinaroo.

Players worked in small teams and had to locate markers in a set time, calling on strategic skills, communication and efficiency.

Earlier in the month, the club also held a health presentation for players with a focus on fuelling the body before, during, and after training and matches.

It was all leading to a team ready for the KAPPA Cup, which begins this Sunday with the Bulls playing the Redlynch Strikers at Calanna Park in Redlynch.

There will also be a few changes in the line-up this season.

“We picked up Josh Muller, he’s a Cairns boy. He has family ties to Mareeba, so we managed to entice him here,” Nick said.

“We also have a few guys who haven’t played with us for a couple of years, and they are coming back in. It’s looking good.

“It was a tester for me last year. But I have it [coaching] under my belt. We’re keen, the boys are keen.”
