Heading into the clash the Bulls faced a tough assignment against the table toppers – having managed just one win and a draw so far this season.

Their challenge became even greater just five minutes into the match when Serafini was shown a red card, leaving Mareeba to battle through the remaining 85 minutes with only 10 men on the field.

Despite the early setback, the Bulls refused to fold and instead produced a determined defensive effort that frustrated the competition leaders for much of the evening. Returning veteran Wayne Srhoj, back after serving a four-match suspension, played a major role in organising the defensive line and helping keep Marlin Coast under pressure.

The breakthrough eventually came in the 63rd minute when Cooper Kennedy found space and slotted home what proved to be the match-winning goal.

Marlin Coast were made to work for every opportunity as Mareeba’s defence stood firm and restricted the league’s most dangerous side to a single goal. While the result did not go the Bulls’ way, the performance showed encouraging signs that better results may not be far away if they continue to believe and maintain the same level of commitment.

Mareeba travel to Innisfail this weekend to take on the Cutters at Steve Corica Oval from 7pm.
