Bushy Creek Makers Fair not to be missed
A NEW two-day grassroots festival celebrating comm-unity life and the creative talent of the region will kick off in Julatten this weekend.
A NEW two-day grassroots festival celebrating comm-unity life and the creative talent of the region will kick off in Julatten this weekend.
The inaugural Bushy Creek Makers’ Fair – the brainchild of Ying Tee and Bianca Velder after the success of the 2024 Festival of Flowers in Mt Molloy – is a volunteer-led event celebrating the makers, musicians, artists, growers and community groups of the region.
With 70-plus makers, performers, workshops, food vendors and community groups involved, the fair promises to be a great opportunity to experience local food producers, food trucks, live music, theatre and performers, art exhibitions, creative workshops, artisan markets, a flower show, campfire singalongs, and a dinner and dance.
“After the success of Festival of Flowers in Mt Molloy, a small group of locals started asking, ‘What could we create next?’ That simple question has grown into the Bushy Creek Makers’ Fair,” Ying said.
“In just a few months, more than 100 volunteers, stallholders, artists, mus-icians and community members became involved.
“Several local bus-inesses came on board as sponsors, community organisations have em-braced the idea, and the fair has grown into something far bigger than we first imagined.
“More than an event, the fair aims to create a welcoming space where creativity, connection and collaboration can flourish – celebrating not only the talents of local makers, but also the strong bonds that tie the Mt Molloy and Julatten communities together.
“A highlight of the fair will be Voices of Bushy Creek, a Festivals Australia-supported community arts project.
“This project brings together community mem-bers, Mt Kooyong aged care residents, local artists, poets and musicians to create a shared artwork and original performance at the fair, involving and celebrating our community.”
The Bushy Creek Makers’ Fair will be held this weekend at Geraghty Park Hall in Julatten.
