Busy bees clean up town

THE recently formed Atherton Enhancement Group (AEG) is already hard at work cleaning up their own town, with almost 40 volunteers attending its first working bee recently.

With hi-vis vests donated by Worklocker Atherton and cleaning supplies donated by Bunnings, some 40-odd passionate locals took to the Main Street of Atherton to scrub graffiti, tidy up street gardens and planter boxes, and clean footpaths.

The volunteers split up into groups and spread out along both sides of the main drag, from Anzac Park all the way up the Atherton Hotel.

Group committee members reported very positive feedback from attendees, such as “it was a fabulous day”, “brilliant”, “what a terrific turnout”, and “well organised”.

The group would like to thank the following Atherton businesses for their support:

  • Worklocker – For donating screen-printed vests and pick-up wands

  • Bunnings – For donating cleaning equipment and supplies

  • Superstar Cafe – For providing discounted post-work coffees

  • McAuliffe’s Menswear – For providing drinking water and access to toilet facilities

  • And Tablelands Councillor Con Spanos – For his much-appreciated hands-on support.

The group said it was already planning its next working bee for Sunday 24 May, with volunteer registration forms available at Worklocker and the Library.
