Cats farming for a home
FARMERS or rural property owners who are interested in adopting a cat to help keep vermin and other pests at bay can do so through a Cairns cat rescue.

Dougie and Myles are two healthy male cats in the care of 4 The Love of Cats in Cairns who are both well-suited to farm or rural life.
Organisation director Sara Tucker said that these cats would prefer the freedom of outdoor living and would only require basic care such as the provision of food, water, and shelter.
“They are not just pets – they are valuable working cats who can contribute positively to any farm or rural property,” she said.
“Farm cats are a natural pest control. They’re skilled hunters and they keep rats, mice, and other small pests under control, protecting crops, grain and machinery.
“They’re a chemical free solution and they’re low maintenance animals who thrive with basic care, food, water and shelter. They’re happiest when they have a job to do.”
Both animals are desexed, microchipped, vaccinated, and worm/flea/tick treated. New owners will also be given a collar with a bell to assist in keeping native wildlife safe. Their adoption fee is $50 each.
