Atherton had a scintillating win over the second-placed Mulgrave side at Loder Park, Atherton on Saturday, beating the Cairns side by 53 runs.

Atherton came out to bat first, with Brandon Green and Charlie Lawrence taking to the crease as opening batsmen.

Green went on to produce a triumphant century, scoring 110-not-out from 108 balls including eight 4s and four 6s.

A 39 off 57 from Brendan Nasser also proved helpful towards the local club’s score. Atherton finished their innings 5/202.

Mulgrave were unable to chase down Atherton’s score after seeing four ducks and a highest run tally of 43 runs from Kobi Johnston.

Green continued to shine in the second innings, claiming a wicket and taking four catches as a fielder. Atherton bowled their opponents out for 149 runs after 33.2 overs.

Meanwhile, in Mareeba, the Bandits’ game against Norths at Borzi Park was cut short after 20 overs due to an afternoon storm.

This weekend, Atherton will take on the Cyclones in Innisfail and Mareeba will have a bye round.
