Citizens join the Aussie family
JUST over 100 people living in the Tablelands region have taken the oath to become Australian citizens to date this year.
Tablelands Mayor Cardew swore in 17 new citizens this month.
This group of 24 people became Mareeba’s newest Australian citizens.
This month, Mareeba Mayor Angela Toppin welcomed 24 new Australian citizens from Argentina, Chile, China, Germany, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Netherlands, Panama, Philippines, Russia, Slovakia, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Taiwan and the United Kingdom.
The latest group takes the number of people who have become Aussies in the Mareeba Shire to 53 this year.

Mayor Kevin Cardew also presided over a citizenship ceremony this month, swearing in 17 new citizens whose countries of origin included Germany, India, New Zealand, the Philippines, the United Kingdom and the United States of America. This takes the total number of people sworn in for the Tablelands local government area to 60.
