A HOST of artists from across Queensland flocked to Mareeba last week as the inaugural Art on the Barron workshop opened last Monday, running the entirety of last week.

The workshop had local and interstate artists, young and old taking a page from some of the most respected and experienced artists in Australia. Artists were able to work with their tutors in depth learning new skills and adding them to their ever-growing repertoire.

Merilyn Holmes from the Mareeba Art Society said it was a fantastic week and all of the artists learnt took home something new.

“We were painting up a storm, there were no complaints about the workshop,” she said.

“Everyone has learned something, even some people that have been painting for a fair while have learned something new.

“It was a happy atmosphere with lots of fun.”

Kuranda artist Alenka Wood was extremely satisfied with the workshop and how the tutors ran them, catering to everyone’s needs and skill levels.

“I’ve learned so much and had a great time, Penelope (one of the tutors) was amazing she knows so much,” she said.

“She is very adaptive, she realised that some of us had never been to a workshop and so she took us right back and went through it step by step.

“It was very inclusive and nobody was left behind.”

Another standout from the workshop week was the dinners that was provided as many artists expressed their satisfaction and gratitude for the meals provided.

The workshop ended last Friday in the form of an art exhibition where all of the artworks done during the week was put on display for the wider public to see and admire.
