The Atherton Lions have decided to give a helping hand this Christmas by donating a cheque for $2000 to the Tablelands Regional Council (TRC) Mayors Christmas Appeal.

The appeal seeks to assist those within the TRC community who may be doing it rough and provide them with the assistance they need.

The money donated was raised on Friday, 27 November where TRC Mayor Rod Marti joined Atherton Lions in selling their tickets for their monthly Mega Meat Tray Raffle with the donation being made last Wednesday, December 2.

Atherton Lions President Mil Clay said that Lions donated this cheque to give back to the community that they raised money through.

“We do the raffle and we are raising money through the community and we like to put it back into the community,” he said.

“At this time of the year you have to be aware of all those that are less fortunate than a lot of us.

“Because this was so successful we are going to set it in place that when we do the meat tray raffle the proceeds go to the Mayor’s Christmas Appeal.”
