WITHERBYS 2021 Passage Planning Guide for the Great Barrier Reef and Torres Strait is about to be launched with an updated front cover image and more of the critical information that the industry has come to expect from Witherbys publications.

Maritime Industry Australia Limited invited entries to a photo competition in March for a new front cover, and as always, the quality of the entries from this magnificent part of the world was first class.

The competition was a wonderful opportunity to stimulate interest in the Australian maritime industry and showcase an image that truly reflects the region, from those that know it best.

Witherbys has a long history of supporting shipping, as does MIAL, which is why this partnership is so natural.

Witherbys 2021 Passage Planning Guide for the Great Barrier Reef and Torres Strait is designed to be used as part of the ship's pre-entry procedures and as a tool for refreshing the bridge team each time the ship is planning a passage through the GBR and Torres Strait.

An improved presentation of pullout chartlets allow the book to be used in real time, giving the navigator an overview that can be lost on ships where the primary means of navigation is ECDIS.

Updated traffic information and case studies based on accident reports are also effective in illustrating best navigational procedures.

Philip Warring, a photographer for Coral Expeditions, was the winner of the photo competition, supplying a spectacular shot that now graces the cover of Witherbys 2021 Passage Planning Guide for the Great Barrier Reef and Torres Strait.

35 years ago Coral Expeditions extended their expedition cruises to the outer reaches of Great Barrier Reef, where their expert guides share their knowledge above and below the water to give a deep understanding of this precious destination.

Though now sailing many destinations in Australia and overseas, Coral Expeditions continues to be proudly based in Cairns, and leads expeditions to the Great Barrier Reef each year.
