An emerging Tablelands author is about to launch her spooky first book in Yungaburra this week.

Marion Reid’s book “A ghostly view of the village” is based in the fictional country town of Colby, which has a village ghost.

Instead of dragging chains this ghost see’s and hears all the gossip around town, and he casts an eye over the town’s hypocrisies and misdemeanours.

Marion said much of the inspiration came from growing up on the Tablelands. “I grew up in Millaa Millaa and my father had a drapery shop and I spent most of my childhood in that shop watching the different people coming in and out and listening to their gossip,” she said.

“When I started to think about writing, I thought if I said it would be too personal, so a little ghost became the narrator and it’s about how he see’s people and watches how they react to different situations.

“Even though book is set in small Victorian town called Colby, there’s a lot of influence from Millaa Millaa and Yungaburra.

Marion said now is the right time to publish the book. “It’s not the type of book I could have written when I was younger, it’s based on what I have seen over the years,” she said.

“I guess you could say the ghost is my alter ego, as he quite naughty and politically incorrect, as the book is set in the 1980’s when people used to say whatever they liked.

“So, he says whatever he is thinking.

“When I sent it to by publishers, they asked for a sequel so that’s also finished and ready to go.”

The book launch is on February 6 at the Yungaburra pub at 3pm for champagne and afternoon tea and is open to the public or to buy a copy online go to www.marionreidauthor.com
