Works on the new Ravenshoe water reservoir are well underway with expected completion by the end of the year

THE construction of Ravenshoe’s new water reservoir is well underway after works first commenced in May this year.

The tender for the earthworks and construction of the new reservoir and other associated infrastructure projects was awarded to King Concreting Queensland at the end of February for a total over $2,471,063.

Tablelands Regional Council (TRC) also awarded the tender for the construction of pipes, booster pump and intake upgrades to Rylsey Enterprises for $3,059,741.89.

TRC Councillor Annette Haydon is impressed with the current progress of the works with it currently on track to be completed early next year.

“The earthworks have slowed a bit due to the amount of rock, but the reservoir is still on track to be completed by early next year,” she said.

“The work will be completed by the end of the year if the weather is on our side.”

The design of a water treatment plant, pipelines and booster pump station to connect Millstream, Cassowary Heights and Belleview Estate to the Ravenshoe Scheme is also underway.

“We will continue to seek funding opportunities for the construction of the water treatment plant and, if everything goes to plan, it too should be completed in the 2022–23 financial year,” Councillor Haydon said.

“When this comes online, residents in the Ravenshoe, Millstream, Cassowary Heights and Belleview Estate will rarely experience boil water notices (BWNs).

“The only time we should see BWNs for these areas is during emergencies.”
