Sonlia makes top ten cup fashion
MAREEBA’S own homegrown fashion label, Sonlia Fashion has once again been in the spotlight after they successfully made it into the top ten for two categories in the Myer Fashions on Your Front Lawn.
MAREEBA’S own homegrownfashion label, Sonlia Fashion has once again been in thespotlight after they successfully made it into the top ten for two categories in the Myer Fashions on Your Front Lawn.
Normally this competition is held on Melbourne Cup race dayhowever due to COVID a different approach had to be taken andthe competition moved online.
After deciding to enter in both the Emerging Designer Award and the Millinery Award, Sonlia Fashion made it to the top ten for both categories.When hearing the news Sonlia Fashion’s Liana Hastie waselated and even did a quick dance around the workshop.
“I opened the link that announced we were in the top 10and I was jumping around the workroom,” she said.
“I thought why not challengemyself and enter both of the categories.
“This is the first year we have made top ten because it is so competitive.”
The Emerging DesignerAward aims to encourage outstanding design talent and excellence while the MillineryAward is considered the crowning achievement for makers ofthe race headwear.
‘Empress’ was the dress that was submitted by Sonlia for theEmerging Designer Award taking inspiration from the turmoilof COVID and the new vibrant colours of spring.
“We’re a designer in a small town so it’s pretty exciting andto make it in both is so rewarding,” Mrs Hastie said.
“We go to Melbourne every year and we like to look at our work amongst all the others to make sure our standards are high.
“It is the top competition youcan enter for race wear in Australia.”
