Community garden vision a reality
A VISION to create a community space where people could grow food, share knowledge and connect with one another has become a reality, with Better Together Community Support officially opening its new Community Garden in Atherton.

A VISION to create a community space where people could grow food, share knowledge and connect with one another has become a reality, with Better Together Community Support officially opening its new Community Garden in Atherton.
The recent official opening marked the culmination of months of planning, preparation and hard work, with community members and supporters coming together to celebrate the garden and the people who helped bring it to life.
Located behind the Atherton Community Centre, the garden has been developed as a welcoming space where participants can get their hands in the soil, grow fresh food, learn new skills and spend time connecting with others.
For Better Together Community Support, the garden represents what can be achieved when people share a vision and are willing to contribute to making it happen.
Better Together Community Support Coordinator Nadia said the garden was about more than simply growing food.
“It is a place where people can grow food, share knowledge, connect with one another and take pride in what we have created,” she said.
The garden provides opportunities for participants to learn from one another and develop practical gardening skills, while also creating a place for social connection and community participation.
The official opening also marked the beginning of the next stage for the garden.
Participants are now welcome to come along every Friday from 9am to 12pm to work in the garden, enjoy the space and be part of its ongoing development.
The garden has already started producing food for the Community Pantry and Better Together Community Support is hoping this will continue to increase as interest in the garden grows.
The project is part of Better Together Community Support’s “Stronger Together Food Program”.
“We started with an idea. Together, we turned it into reality, and together, we can continue to make it grow,” Nadia said.
