Conference to showcase shire’s attractions

MAREEBA will play host to the 2026 Queensland Information Centres Association (QICA) Conference this month, where visitor information centre professionals, tourism operators, industry leaders and partners from across the state will come together to connect, learn and celebrate.

Mareeba Shire visitor information volunteers and managers and members of the Local Tourism Operators group promoted the shire’s attractions, food trails and accommodation venues at camping and caravan shows in Sydney and Melbourne prior to this year’s “tourist season”.

The five-day conference, from 26-29 October, will combine professional development, networking opportunities and immersive local experiences.

Delegates will enjoy a unique blend of keynote presentations, industry discussions and hosted tours showcasing some of the region’s most iconic attractions, including Kuranda, Skybury Farms, Birdworld, Rainforestation and Chillagoe.

From the welcome event in Cairns to the conference sessions and gala evening in Mareeba, the QICA Conference 2026 promises to deliver valuable insights, meaningful connections and an unforgettable North Queensland experience.

“Kuranda and Mareeba will welcome delegates from across Queensland for the conference that presents a fantastic opportunity to put Mareeba Shire businesses directly in front of the people who help visitors decide where to go, what to see and what to experience across our state,” Mareeba Tourist Operators chair and Shire Deputy Mayor Lenore Wyatt said.

Local tourism operators and businesses have been invited to contribute 60 small merchandise or promotional items such as branded merchandise, locally-made products, vouchers, samples or other items that showcase their business and give delegates a taste of what makes Mareeba Shire special.

“It’s a simple way to showcase your business while helping to give QICA delegates a memorable Mareeba Shire welcome,” Cr Wyatt said.

“By connecting with Queensland’s frontline tourism advocates, local operators can showcase their organisation to the people who help shape visitor experiences across the state via this unique opportunity to increase brand awareness, build industry relationships and support the visitor information centre network.”

The 2026 QICA conference sessions will be held at Mareeba International Club and a Gala Awards dinner will be hosted by the Mareeba Heritage Centre and Savannah Café on 25 October.
