Mareeba Shire Council approved a $1.8 million contract to Flowpro Pty Ltd for sewer pipe cleaning, relining, junction cutting and sealing, junction replacements, complete sewer section replacements and CCTV inspections within the Mareeba township.

A report to council advised that CCTV inspections had revealed that sections of the sewer main required rehabilitation due to deterioration, structural defects and infiltration.

Council undertakes annual in-situ sewer relining works to maintain the structural integrity, reliability and serviceability of the sewer reticulation network.

“The proposed sewer relining and rehabilitation works will extend the operational life of the existing assets while reducing groundwater infiltration into the sewer network,” the report stated.

“This will improve network performance, decrease wet weather inflows to the sewage treatment facilities and reduce operational and energy costs, especially during the wet season or significant rain events.”

Council also approved a $1.08 million contract to NQ Wastetrans Pty Ltd to supply and install a new water main on various sections of Kenneally Estate.

“Works for the new watermain installation will generally be limited to the road pavement. The existing water main is typically asbestos cement and will be decommissioned by grouting in situ,” a report to council stated.

Both projects are expected to be completed by 30 June 2027.
