Speaking to her motion at the council meeting last week, Mayor Angela Toppin said the current contract had now reached the minimum term to allow for a renewal to be introduced.

Mr Franks has been with the council for well over a decade, and his last five-year contract renewal was in 2023.

“To ensure the ongoing stability of the organisation and the ongoing success of this council, I believe we should act to retain his services for the next five years,” Mayor Toppin said.

“His actions and commitment have been exemplary, and it would serve the council well to offer a new contract.”

Councillors voted unanimously for the motion amid congratulations and applause.

“I really enjoy working here - it is a great council and great staff,” Mr Franks said.

To which the mayor lightly replied, “We will challenge you daily, and this will be ongoing Mr Peter Franks.”
