Countdown to Maize Festival
THE countdown is on to this year’s Maize Festival, with a High Tea planned for this Saturday night.
The annual festival features three main events – the High Tea on 8 August, the Maize Ball on 15 August and the Main Street parade on 29 August.
The High Tea will be held at the Yungaburra Community Hall and promises to be an “afternoon of elegance, laughter, and community spirit”.
The event, which goes from 11am-2pm, will also be the first time to meet the Maize Queen and Princess entrants.
Guests will enjoy a delicious selection of sweet and savoury high tea favourites, live local music, raffles and a teacup competition.

The following Saturday, it’s time for locals to “dress to impress for an unforgettable evening of entertainment, dancing, and celebration” at the annual Maize Ball.
To be held at the Yungaburra Community Hall, the event, which has a theme of “Back to the 80s”, includes a three-course meal, with a complimentary drink on arrival.
Live music from Careless and a charity auction will make the evening even more special, with a courtesy bus on offer.

The highlight of the festival will be the street parade on 29 August when floats and music will flow down Main Street, Atherton.
Festivities start from 5pm with a special lolly event and Atherton State High School Music Academy performing in the street from 5.30pm. The street parade commences at 6.30pm followed by In2Dance performance, competitions presentations, and a tug-of-war.
