Cowgirl shines on global stage
LOCAL cowgirl Hayley Rose has showcased her name on the international stage once again after tying for second place in bronc riding at a prestigious American rodeo.

Rose recently travelled over to California to compete at the Grand National Rodeo – a longstanding, prestigious rodeo. She competed in the Women of Rodeo event, a day dedicated to the competition of female rodeo athletes.
She competed in the Women’s Ranch Bronc Ride where she tied for second place with a score of 86 points. She jumped on two horses but the first one “got the better” of her.
“It’s a very good feeling, that’s for sure. It was a very big stage, there’s so much history there,” she said.
“Fortunately with the second horse, I drew a good one and got a good score, and it was enough to put me up. They were very good horses, and they were good fun to ride.”
She said the atmosphere at the venue was unlike anything she had felt before.
“It was a very humbling feeling. Just the atmosphere – you can feel the history in the building,” she said.
“Just the feeling from the crowd, saddling you’re horse knowing that you’ve got a good one underneath you, and knowing you’re competing with the best and representing your country, there’s just no greater feeling really.”
Rose is passionate about advocating for women in sport and is thrilled to see women’s rodeo events gaining traction.
“It’s really great to see these events happening. It’s a credit to the committee and the association for driving that,” she said.
“It just showcases women’s skills in multiple areas in the rodeo fields. It’s great to be a part of that and to showcase women in rodeo.
“This was only the second time that the Women’s Ranch Bronc riding has been held at the Cow Palace Grand National. So, it’s very exciting to be a part of something that is paving the way and making history, really.”
