Crews battle blaze
IT was a busy Sunday afternoon for local firefighters, who were called to a large fire in Mareeba which warranted a Prepare to Leave warning.

Firefighters were called to a dangerous, fast moving fire which was burning between Springs Rd and Adil Rd, just outside the Mareeba township.
The large fire was moving towards Effley St, Adil Rd, and Fassio Rd, with the Queensland Fire Department (QFD) issuing Prepare to Leave warnings at 1.50pm and 4pm.
The local brigade was made aware of the fire just before 11am, with its severity requiring a total of 22 crew and multiple trucks from both QFD and Rural Fire Service Queensland (RFSQ) to be on site battling the blaze.
The fire was deemed under control as of Sunday night, and crews were scheduled to return to the area on Monday for monitoring.
The fire department was unable to confirm whether it believed the fire was started deliberately, as it may become subject to investigation. However, nothing had been determined yet.
It also said that, to its knowledge, there had been no property damage.
UPDATE:
As of Tuesday afternoon, the fire warning had been cancelled due to conditions easing. Crews will continue to monitor the situation and there will be no more warnings issued, unless conditions change.
