The senior Eagles team capped off a strong end to the regular season in the Far North Community league by claiming the minor premiership trophy.

Now, they’ve gone on in their dominance to claim their second trophy of the season and cement themselves as Grand Final winners.

Played in Cairns on Friday night, the Atherton side got off to a strong start in the first half.

In the 23rd minute, Atherton’s Cooper Steptoe put one in the net to give his team a 1-0 lead. Just 10 minutes later, Atherton’s William Lifu added another point to the score board to extend his team’s lead at 2-0.

The Eagles continued to hold out the Comets and it wasn’t until the 63rd minute that the Southside team would put one in the net themselves.

But they couldn’t do enough to level the scores and the game finished at 2-1, leaving the Eagles as the 2025 Grand Final winners.

The U15/16 Eagles also contested a Grand Final at the weekend but did not fare as well as their senior team, just falling short 1-0 to the Stratford Dolphins.

The young Atherton side finished their season as minor premiers but could not go on all the way. Regardless, they were happy to have finished runners-up for the season.

“We’re incredibly proud of what our players and coaches have accomplished this season,” club president Jason Cummings said.

“These results are a reflection of the hard work, dedication, and passion within our teams.”
