Eclectic exhibition

AN eclectic mix of fibre artists, basket makers, and sculptors from the Tablelands, Cairns and Oak Beach, have their stunning works on show at the Tableland Regional Gallery in what is their third exhibition as the Saltwater Creek Fibre Artists.

“Sea Life by 1” by Rosey Cummings is one of many works on display.

Launched earlier this month, “Off the Beaten Track” includes remarkable, sculptural, mixed media, fibre and basketry works from these well-known artists, who share a common passion for all things natural, ephemeral, and for some, inorganic materials.

“‘Off the Beaten Track’ was chosen to represent the individual and collective journeys they have been on since that time, and the artworks chart their creative development,” gallery spokesperson Pam Kusabs said.

Those artists include Bonnie Alison, Marcia Bird, Rosey Cummings, Pamela Kusabs, Tijn Meulendijks, Toni Rogers, Sue Ryan, Jeanette Sproule and Pamela Westera.

The works make use of the flotsam and jetsum of the landscape.

Works include “Unknown Coordinates” by Marcia Bird, “Forest Floor” by Tijn Meulendijks or “Dancing Flames” by Jeanette Sproule, or “Sea Life by 1” by Rosey Cummings, made from “washed up beach rope” will pique visitors’ curiosity.

“Off the Beaten Track” by Saltwater Creek Fibre Artists runs until 4 October.
