English ahead in vote count
FOURTH-generation dairy farmer Greg English may be on track to join Tablelands Regional Council as the Division 1 representative, with a slim lead in the by-election held on Saturday.

As of the time this newspaper went to press, Mr English was leading the count by just 97 votes over former councillor Bernie Wilce.
Mr English attracted 32% (or 623) of the votes counted over Mr Wilce with 26.4% (or 526 votes), followed by newcomer Mark Norvall (444 votes) and former councillor Kate Eden (364 votes).
There are 3300 voters enrolled in Division 1, and as of 11am Monday, 1979 votes had been counted.
Mr English told The Express he was “too early and too close” to call but was happy with the trend to date.
“It’s better to be 97 votes in front then 97 votes behind,” he said.
“People have been calling to congratulate me and I’m saying it’s too early for that with the voting so close.”
Counting was expected to continue on Monday.
