Evolution continues at St Stephen’s
A STUDENT Wellness Centre will soon support students with complex learning profiles at St Stephen’s Catholic College, with works set to begin at the end of the school year.
The new development from the local high school follows the opening of its Innovation Centre in February, which marked the first celebration of the school’s 20th anniversary.
Now, the school plans to round out its two-decade milestone by renovating an existing building into the Wellness Centre.
As well as supporting current students (once renovations are complete), it is also a future-focused project which will cater to student needs well into the future, according to principal Gary Conwell.
“The Wellness Centre will provide a calm, inclusive environment where students can access coordinated learning and wellbeing support with privacy and dignity,” he said.
“By bringing support services together in one purpose-built space, we can improve engagement, learning outcomes, and overall student wellbeing.
“It is the next necessary and desired step in our college master development plan and we are looking forward to its opening with much anticipation.”
The new facility is set to include:
Three counselling rooms – for guidance councillors to work with students one-on-one;
AdvertisementAn open learning space – for students to work in a quiet setting with school staff;
A dedicated space for students with high needs;
Office space for learning support staff, case management staff, the school’s Liaison Officer, and future growth;
Outdoor transition spaces and courtyards;
Spaces for visiting specialists – such as psychologists or occupational and speech therapists;
And sensory-informed design – such as neutral colour palettes, dimmable lighting, acoustic treatment, and soft furnishings.
