Excitement builds for big race
THIS year’s Great Wheelbarrow Race is shaping up to be a lively event, with 42 individuals and groups registering to take part.

Additionally, the registration deadline has been moved to 31 March to allow for a few more entries, although this could be closed earlier if capacity is reached – which is roughly 50 teams, depending on a few different factors.
This year marks the 23rd annual Wheelbarrow Race, and to date, a grand total of $2,898,730 has been raised and donated to dozens of charities.
This year’s event will see the new Fitness team category, with fitness clubs – whether it be a sports club, gym, CrossFit gym, or other fitness groups – now able to enter as a team.
This year’s race will kick off in the main street of Mareeba on Friday 8 May, before the 140km, three-day adventure takes runners all the way out to Chillagoe for a presentation ceremony and celebration.
