Excitement in your Pocket (Film Festival)
ENTRIES are rolling in for this year’s Herberton Pocket Film Festival, to be held as part of the Jacaranda Festival on Saturday 17 October.

Answering the theme of “What’s Your Story”, the 2026 entries include the fabulous series by Samatha Kucurs, The Journey So Far: Artists of the Atherton Tablelands, as well as another series showcasing women farmers from the region.
Audrey Hill, winner of the Best Film award at last year’s festival, chose film to honour women farmers for the International Year of the Woman Farmer. These were screened recently at The Atherton Show and deserve a repeat showing.
Fifth-generation Tablelander, Sam Kucurs, received a National Regional Arts Fellowship to create her project which celebrates the rich array of creative artists in her home region.
Sam will be at festival to introduce her project.
“It’s been an amazing opportunity to meet and learn from five local artists over the past year,” she said.
“Being able to collaborate on these stories is something I’m very grateful for.”
This year the festival has also partnered with the Castlemaine Film Festival in regional Victoria, and will share stories between the towns.
Festival director Peter Whalley-Thompson said their stories about “growing grass, bushfires, mining and mountain bikes will all resonate with us up here”.
The Herberton Pocket Film Festival screening will be held at the Herberton Community Hall on Saturday 17 October at 7pm. Entry is $10.
