Exciting Annuals Carnival awaits
THE regional spring races season is heading towards the backstretch and Mareeba Turf Club looks a winner with an exciting Annuals Carnival next month.
The Annuals Race Dinner has secured renowned jockey Robert Thompson as guest speaker on Friday 5 September.
Robert’s illustrious career includes being inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2015. In the same year he was awarded an Order of Australia Medal which acknowledged his extraordinary racing success.
He has won $38 million in prize money, seven group 1 wins, and on his retirement held the record for being the “most winningest jockey in Australian history”.
Robert also has strong ties with Far North Queensland making history on two horses in particular - The Harrovian (trainer: Steve Massingham) which was the first horse to secure the TAB QLD Northern Crowns series bonus, and Paniagua (trainer: Alex Malliff) which was the Country Cups Challenge final winner in Doomben.
The evening will feature canapes and a complimentary beverage on arrival, followed by a full buffet dinner, additional entertainment and the Calcutta, and attendees will also receive free entry to the following day’s races.
On Saturday 6 September the Annuals Race Day gates open at 11am.
The ever-popular Fashions on the Field Competition – supported by the Bendigo Community Bank- features the theme “patterns and prints”, and will introduce a new category, sustainable fashion.
The focal point for the day is the 5-race draw card, which includes the Bracelet and the Mareeba Cup.
This must-do event on the Mareeba calendar is supported by Langley Plumbing, The Graham, PIMS, Reds Joinery and Wanye Laverty Quality Sheds.
