Famous Cup a highlight of ball
IT’S the race that stops a nation but it is rare for those living in regional areas to view the highly-sought after Melbourne Cup.
But now, the Cup is making its way north to take pride of place at the Atherton Annuals Ball next month.
Patrons who attend the ball on 12 September will get a chance to be photographed with the Cup and, perhaps, even touch the valuable trophy.
For the first time in its 165-year history, the coveted Lexus Melbourne Cup has been handcrafted using pure Australian ABC Bullion gold sourced entirely from the Northern Territory.
Marking another significant milestone for the Cup, the esteemed trophy has also reached a value of $1 million.
The Cup weighs over 1.8kg and contains almost 60 ounces of 18-carat gold.
The Atherton Annuals Ball is a highly anticipated event on the social calendar and this year will certainly be no different.
The ball will also feature the FNQ Country Racing Association awards ceremony which will laud the trainer of the year, jockey of the year and horse of the year.
A surprise guest speaker is also coming from the Victoria Racing Club.
Patrons can also be part of the Fashions at the Ball which will reward the best dressed ladies and gentlemen with prizes.
The event is formal attire, with live entertainment from Amber McIntosh and her band, a fantastic dinner, a licensed bar and a lucky spot prize.
