Farmer to share sustainability insights
LESSONS learned from over 40 years of balancing commercial farming with sustainable land management will be the focus of a special presentation hosted by Barron Catchment Care next week.

Guest speaker Leasie Felderhof owns and manages a farm near Atherton and will share her first-hand experiences in beef cattle, horticultural and cropping industries at the presentation next Tuesday evening.
Barron Catchment Care Chair, Bryony Barnett said Leasie was recognised as a leader in integrating commercial farming activities and sustainable land management practices.
“Leasie will be giving an informative and practical information session on farm planning that will include her efforts over the years to reduce water runoff, enhance soil health and conserve biodiversity,” Bryony said.
“She is interested in testing innovative ideas and finding solutions that work.
“For instance, in 2006 she established one of the first drone businesses in Australia.
“Her story is typical of the challenges our farmers face in using sound land management to bridge the gap between their farm’s current condition and the need to secure its long-term viability. She will also discuss succession planning to ensure today’s efforts are preserved into the future.”
Barron Catchment Care has a 30-year history of collaborating with farmers to achieve common-sense and sustainable improvements to land management practices that benefit the Barron River catchment.
The free presentation will be held from 7.30pm-8.30pm on Tuesday 2 September at the Tablelands Regional Council Coordination Centre, 15 Vernon Street, Atherton.
Seats are limited so RSVP by calling 0407 115 402 or emailing to coordinator@barronrivercatchment.org
