Favourite takes out the Cup

A FAVOURITE has taken out the 2026 Atherton Cup, with Sigiriya Rock first past the post on Saturday.

Trained by Steven Royes and ridden by Ben Kennedy, Sigiriya paid just $2.20 for the win. 

Second was Hopeful, trained by Graham Hughes and ridden by Ivo Fry, followed by Amalfi Amore, trained by Alex Malliff and ridden by Samantha Pointon.

In the other big race of the day, the Bracelet over 1000m, Midas Star took the honours, with Wanderson D’Avi aboard the Stephen Bush-trained winner.

Superstitions, trained by Ray Moller and ridden by Masayuki Abe was second, while the Alex-Malliff trained Lucky Rolla came in third with Ben Kenne in the saddle.
