Feast of fun awaits

A POPULAR annual Mareeba event is celebrating its 65th anniversary this year and organisers are gearing up for the biggest one yet.

The Feast of Our Lady of the Chain will kick off on Saturday 13 September with a dinner dance at the Mareeba International Club, offering great food, live music, and dancing.

Fortunato Isgro and Claude Portelli will provide live entertainment on the night, complementing a three-course dinner for $75 per person. To secure a seat, email ladyofchain@gmail.com

On Sunday 14 September, a special mass will be held at St Thomas of Villanova Catholic Church in Constance Street, to be led by Bishop Joe Caddy AM from 2.30pm and followed by a procession of the statue through the streets.

From 4pm, head to St Thomas’ Primary School where locals can enjoy an extravaganza of food with Italian gnocchi, homemade pasta and cannoli for sale and a fully licensed bar will also be provided.

For the kids, there will be a lucky dip, knock-em-downs, and a chocolate table as well as a colouring in competition.

There will be singing and dancing performances and plenty of fun for everyone. The day will finish with a fireworks display from 8.30pm.
