First exhibition for Mareeba artist
A MAREEBA artist who has only been painting for four years has opened her first exhibition at Mareeba Art Society’s Gallery 58.
Karen and Ken Vidler are hosting the Art and Woodcraft Exhibition which will feature around 20 of Karen’s paintings and a selection of Ken’s timber pieces.
The couple, who have lived in Mareeba for the past three decades, moved towards a creative path after the children were grown and moved away.
“We decided to put our love for timber to use. Making the odd coffee tables, we were encouraged by friends to do the markets – we’re still doing them 14 years later and have learned to do things along the way,” Karen said.
“I have always loved Australia landscape painting and thought how I’d love to paint something like that.
“Then in 2022, I was asked to join beginners’ art classes at the Mareeba Art Society.
“That day changed my life - I had been wanting to do this for 50 years and now I’m truly on my way.”
The exhibition is on until 31 August and the pieces are for sale.
