More than 40 people gathered to help Gordon celebrate the milestone with the club of which he remains an honorary member.

Gordon joined the Atherton Rotary Club in February 1986 and left as a full member last year.

Over the years he has taken on many responsibilities, including the role of president and secretary where he helped to strengthen Rotary’s ties with the local community and has helped guide a variety of projects and other initiatives undertaken by the club for those in need both in the local community and overseas.

He helped establish the Cambodian Official Development Assistance project, reflecting the club’s belief that service should reach wherever it is needed most.

Gordon has also gained Rotary Foundation Recognition by receiving four Paul Harris Fellows – the highest form of recognition a Rotary Club can bestow. It is presented to a Rotarian or a member of the community who has made an outstanding contribution to the community.

As someone well versed in all areas of Rotary, Gordon has been a valuable source of information for all members over the years, and has been a guide for all new Rotarians joining the club.

Gordon has also been supportive of the Youth Public Speaking competition and has been a judge numerous times. At the gathering to mark his 40-year service to the club, Gordon said this was one of his greatest joys because it encouraged growth in young people through confidence and communication.

Gordon has also been a valued member of the board of the Carinya Home for the Aged and, through Rotary, has helped raise much-needed funds to keep this valued part of the community in operation.

The Atherton Rotary Club was chartered in 1947 and meets twice a month on the second and fourth Tuesday at the Atherton International Club.
