Free cuts for Youth Week

YOUNG people in the Mareeba Shire can celebrate Youth Week in style this year, with the council partnering with a Cairns barber shop to deliver free and fresh haircuts.

The Fresh Start Academy barber program will be delivering the latest cuts and styles for free at Mareeba Shire Libraries for Youth Week.

To celebrate Queensland Youth Week (11-19 April), Mareeba Shire Libraries has again partnered with Fresh Start Academy to deliver local youth the freshest haircuts – whether it’s short back and sides, a low/mid/high taper, a fade or burst fade, or whatever their heart desires.

Fresh Start Academy is a Cairns-based barber training program that gives at risk youth an opportunity to get their lives back on track by learning skills to become a qualified barber and earn a living.

The barber shop will be sending four trainee barbers along with their educator to each event. In addition to free haircuts, it’s a great opportunity for young people in the local area to connect with each other and their community in a positive way.

No bookings are required, children must be at least four years old to have their hair cut, and parental/guardian consent is required for all kids aged 15 and under.
