From Dimbulah to a shot in Texas
A LOCAL rodeo association has collaborated with country music superstar Cody Johnson to allow the winners of their event this weekend the chance to compete at the singer’s Championship Event in Texas next month.

FNQ Time Events, which is a rodeo association based at Eureka Creek, Dimbulah, will host a Ladies Breakaway, Team Roping and Junior Team Roping competition this weekend with a special prize on offer.
The winners of each event will qualify to compete at Cody Johnson’s COJO Championship Event, a rodeo event dedicated to roping, in Belton, Texas from 7-12 October.
FNQ Time Events secretary Alison Piggott said that their organisation was growing, and this new collaboration could open doors for many talented Australian competitors.
“We are just growing and growing and growing. With our numbers and with our events,” she said.
“Now we’re taking it to a whole new level by going international and collaborating with Cody and bringing international competitors to his events.
“So, that allows us to bring not just FNQ competitors, but Australian competitors to the international stage in America. And that’s huge, because it’s never been done before.
“We’ve got competitors coming from Emerald, Charters Towers, Townsville, the local competitors. I’ve got them coming from everywhere.
“Whether they go or not, that’s up to them, because there is a cost. But the winners will not only win a cash prize, but they’ll also win the eligibility to compete in America.”
The collaboration between the country music superstar and the small Dimbulah organisation came about when Johnson visited Australia and competed at a rodeo in Townsville.
“Cody Johnson is obviously a globally famous country music artist, and he has a property in Texas, America,” Ms Piggott said.
“His event has only been running for a couple of years but it’s getting bigger and bigger every year.
“Cody came to Australia, and he went to Townsville. He met some of our local guys, like our president Lee (Liaver).
“They all got to know each other and now I’ve been working with them to bring the international competitors to America.”
The event will be held at the Eureka Creek Rodeo Grounds this weekend, with the Ladies Breakaway Roping on Saturday and the Team Roping Challenge on Sunday.
