Funding for bridge, but it will take 7 years!

A FUNDING commitment of $450 million to build a new bridge over the Barron River at Kuranda has been pledged this morning by Premier Steven Miles and Member for Barron River Craig Crawford, but the timeline for the new structure is seven years.

The bridge is currently operating at only a single lane of traffic and, if the estimated time is accurate, that may be the way it will be for motorists until 2031.

Meanwhile, the Department of Transport and Main Roads is currently undertaking an assessment of the bridge to determine how heavy vehicle movements will be managed going forward.
