Future of TRC buildings on the line
THE future of community buildings throughout the Tablelands may rest on what locals tell the council in a new survey.

Tablelands Mayor Rod Marti said the council wanted feedback from the community so it could make an informed decision on the future of its buildings.
The survey comes at a time when the council is considering closing three libraries as they try to reduce costs.
“We can’t continue to manage and maintain these 283 community assets, many of which sit idle, are infrequently used, don’t meet need and are nearing the end of their useable life,” Mayor Marti said.
“It’s just not sustainable and we need to ensure ratepayers’ money is used efficiently and with accountability to benefit the community now and into the future.
“We’re asking you to rank five attributes in their order of importance so we can prioritise the maintenance, upgrades and future of these facilities.
The survey asks residents to rank the following from most important to least important when it comes to buildings they use in their community:
Potential place of refuge in the event of a disaster or emergency
Is regularly used (by multiple users and on multiple days of the week)
Located in a population centre (as in a large town e.g. Ravenshoe)
Number of similar facilities in the same area
Heritage listing
The survey can be accessed by going to trc.qld.gov.au/join-conversation until Sunday 9 November.
