Gladiators mauled by top side

CAIRNS Brothers have shown why they’re the team to beat in this year’s FNQRL competition after putting on a dominant display and mauling the Mareeba Gladiators 70-0.

It was a difficult watch for Gladiators fans who made the trek to Cairns on Sunday, with an injury-riddled A Grade squad getting pummelled by the top-placed Cairns Brothers.

The game saw Brothers score 12 tries in total, with seven in the first half and five in the second.

The loss has bumped Mareeba down to 8th on the ladder with just two rounds to go.

The Gladiators Reserve’s also went down, losing 46-0, as did the Under 19s who lost 62-16.

This Sunday, the Gladiators will host the Ivanhoe Knights at Davies Park, Mareeba, with the Under 19s kicking things off from 12pm, followed by Reserve Grade at 1.30pm, and A Grade at 3pm.

The second-placed Atherton Roosters will have a challenge this Saturday when they host the third-placed Southern Suburbs in a statement game before the finals begin.

The two teams are currently tied on points with their for-and-against being the only thing to separate them.

The Under 19s will get things underway at Mungalli Creek Dairy Stadium from 1.30pm, followed by Reserve Grade at 3pm, Women at 4.30pm, and A Grade at 6pm.
